Resolved Question: CHICAGO the film, a question on the character of Velma Kelly.?

In the film Chicago starring Catherine Zeta Jones and Renee Zellweger, there is certain part of the film I do not understand. In a scene near the end of the film where Velma (CZJ) is trying to convince Roxy (RZ) to perform with her, Roxy drops something and Velma helps her pick it up. Roxy notices holes in the stocking of Velma and looks puzzled/concerned. This may be me being thick but what is it supposed to signify?
